On Thursday, July 3, after a 90-day company-wide campaign geared at motivating employees to drop weight, Bob Barker Company will give more than $50,000 in cash prizes to employees participating in the Biggest Winner Health Challenge with matching contributions of over $50,000 going to select charities.
The grand prize winner will take home $5,000 in cash while runner-ups will receive $2,500 for 2nd place, $2,000 for 3rd place and $1,500 for 4th place. Employees not receiving the larger amounts will receive $50 per 1 percent body weight lost. Other cash prizes of $500 will be given to employees that have lowered their blood pressure and cholesterol by 10 percent and $700 will go to employees that have successfully stopped smoking for the 90-day challenge period. Additional cash incentives of $100 will be given to employees that have exceed their boss' percentage of body weight lost along with an additional $250 for exceeding the president of the company's percentage of body weight lost.
"I have been blown away with all of the positive changes I have seen individuals make around the company over these last several months," said Robert Barker, president. "My original motivation in creating this challenge was not for the potential financial savings of health insurance down the line, I think it has the potential to pay for itself through productivity of the employees."
The 90-day challenge garnered international media attention from ITV, Britain's leading current affairs program, who recently featured the company in a two-part series that promoted giving incentives to help encourage employees lose weight in the United Kingdom workforce.
